Lake Geneva police pursuit ends with vehicle plunging into Lake Como

A late-night police pursuit in the Lake Geneva area ended when a vehicle plunged approximately 100 feet into Lake Como. The incident began around 11:07 p.m. on Friday when officers attempted to stop a vehicle near Broad Street after observing a passenger hanging out of the car without a seatbelt.

According to authorities, the driver failed to stop, traveled the wrong way on a one-way street, and drove at high speeds while disregarding traffic signs. The chase continued into the Town of Geneva, ending when the vehicle entered the lake via the Schofield Drive boat launch.

All four occupants of the vehicle managed to swim to a nearby pier, where they were assisted by officers. Emergency medical personnel evaluated everyone at the scene; two individuals were transported to a hospital for treatment, while the other two declined further medical assistance.

The driver, identified as 18-year-old Cash Rauscher of Delavan, faces multiple charges. These include fleeing or eluding a traffic officer, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, reckless driving, operating without a license and insurance, and violations of sobriety and traffic signals. Rauscher made an initial court appearance on Monday, where a $10,000 cash bond was set.
