Lake Geneva rescue: Man survives near-drowning by floating on back

A man narrowly escaped drowning on Lake Geneva near Collonge-Bellerive on July 31. After being unable to reach his rental boat due to windy weather conditions, the swimmer chose to stop fighting the wind and instead floated on his back in a security position to keep his airways above water.

Geneva police reported that the man's decision to float rather than exhaust himself by swimming against the wind likely saved his life. The navigation brigade located him approximately 500 meters from his boat. He was rescued, given oxygen, and taken to the emergency room, though his life was not in danger.
