Lake Jasna investigation launched after puppy death

Police in Slovenia have launched an investigation following the death of a four-month-old puppy after swimming in Lake Jasna near Kranjska Gora. The owner suspects poisoning and has raised concerns that this may not be an isolated incident, noting that a local veterinary clinic has recently treated several other cases of suspected poisoning in the area.

While the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed, authorities are examining whether the water quality played a role. During periods of high temperatures and drought, the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) has warned that lower water levels and reduced flow can lead to increased growth of algae and cyanobacteria in still waters, which can pose risks to animals.
