Lake Karla storks released after successful rehabilitation

Thirteen storks that were previously injured and unable to survive in the wild have been released back into their natural habitat at Lake Karla. The release marks the successful conclusion of a complex rescue, care, and rehabilitation operation.

The effort involved a collaborative chain of organizations, including ANIMA (the Wildlife Protection and Care Association), the Attica Zoological Park, the Thessaly Protected Areas Management Unit of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization, the Forestry Service, and the Scouts' Wildlife Protection Department.

Following their initial rescue, the birds received veterinary care from ANIMA before being transferred to the Attica Zoological Park to regain the strength and flight capabilities necessary for independent survival. The final stage of the process took place at Lake Karla, a vital wetland and refuge for various bird species. Biologist Giannis Vergos, a long-time observer of the lake's ecosystem, participated in the initiative.
