Lake Lyell Pumped Hydro project begins new geotechnical investigations
Lake Lyell Hydro has commenced a third round of geotechnical investigations to support the planning and design of the proposed Lake Lyell Pumped Hydro Energy Storage project. The engineering firm GHD has been engaged to drill six boreholes at existing investigation sites on Mount Walker and near the Farmers Creek arm of Lake Lyell.
Scheduled to run from August 17 until mid-December, the work will examine geology and groundwater conditions. Project director Mike de Vink stated that the data gathered will inform engineering design and future planning decisions. The project remains under assessment and has faced opposition from the Lithgow City Council and local community members.
Residents should expect increased activity and traffic involving drilling rigs, excavators, cranes, and heavy vehicles in areas including Marrangaroo, South Bowenfels, and Rydal. Work is planned between 6am and 6pm, seven days a week, subject to weather and operational requirements.
