Lake Macquarie begins bridge replacement and ambulance station construction

Infrastructure projects are underway in Lake Macquarie to improve transport and emergency services. A $7.6 million project has commenced to replace the Bridge 263 on Racecourse Road in Teralba. The project is funded by a $5 million contribution from the Australian government and $2.6 million from the Lake Macquarie City Council. The replacement aims to address poor structural conditions, support heavy vehicles, and improve road safety. A temporary single-lane crossing will be established starting October 19, necessitating a 15-kilometre detour through Barnsley for two weeks. Completion is expected by August 2027.

Simultaneously, construction has begun on a new ambulance station at Caves Beach. The facility will feature eight vehicle parking bays, a dedicated wash bay, administration offices, staff amenities including a gym, and logistics storage. This development is part of the NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program, which aims to deliver 30 new stations across New South Wales to improve emergency response times and support regional health needs.
