Lake Macquarie charity walk raises $150,000 for Huntington's disease
Angela Hiscock has organized the annual ‘Walk 4 Hope’ in Lake Macquarie to raise awareness and support for Huntington's disease, a fatal, inherited neurodegenerative disorder. What began in 2014 as a small walk with friends has grown into the longest-running event of its kind in Australia, with approximately 300 participants registering for the most recent walk at Speers Point.
The event successfully exceeded its fundraising goals, collecting more than $150,000 for Huntingtons Australia. Mrs. Hiscock, whose first husband died from the disease and whose two daughters live with it, started the initiative to combat the lack of information and support available to affected families. Huntington's is a genetic condition that presents a 50-50 chance of being passed from parents to children.
