Lake Macquarie man contests parking fine issued while assisting terminally ill wife
A Lake Macquarie man, Bruce Toy, is contesting a $144 parking fine issued after he stopped for three minutes in a motorcycle zone to assist his terminally ill wife into their vehicle.
Mr. Toy stated that both he and his wife had accessible parking permits clearly displayed on the vehicle. He noted that the car's hazard lights were on and his son was in the driver's seat. According to time stamps from photos obtained through Services NSW, the vehicle was stopped for only three minutes while Mr. Toy assisted his wife with her wheelchair.
After unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter with the council and Services NSW, Mr. Toy has sought assistance from the office of Lake Macquarie MP Greg Piper, whose staff are now making representations on his behalf.
