Lake Macquarie urged to prepare for 2032 Brisbane Olympics

Lake Macquarie City Council has been urged to explore ways to support athlete and team preparations ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. Councillor Jason Pauling lodged a notice of motion calling for the council to identify how local sporting clubs can benefit from the event.

Pauling, a director on the Hunter Sports Centre board, suggested that the region could serve as a training base for elite teams. Potential local facilities for Olympic preparations include the Hunter Sports Centre’s athletics track and trampoline gym, the Awaba clay target range, and the Belmont Sports Ground.

The proposal highlights potential cultural, economic, and tourism opportunities for the city and the Hunter Valley region. Previous research indicated that the Brisbane Olympics are expected to significantly boost the Queensland economy.
