Lake Mead reaches historic low due to climate crisis

Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States, has reached a historic low due to the ongoing climate crisis. The receding water levels are marked by a white mineral deposit line on the surrounding rocks, currently sitting 57 meters above the water surface.

This reservoir is a critical water source for agriculture and the populations of California and Las Vegas. Hydrologists note that the crisis is exacerbated by record-high temperatures and exceptionally low snowpack in the Rocky Mountains. Because the lake is primarily fed by snowmelt rather than rainfall, the early melting of snow this year has significantly reduced the water supply.
