Lake Natron in Tanzania identified as one of the world's most dangerous lakes

Lake Natron, located in the Arusha region of northern Tanzania within the Gregory Rift, is recognized as one of the world's most extreme and dangerous lakes. Due to high evaporation rates, the saline water deposits massive amounts of salt and minerals, resulting in a highly alkaline environment with a pH level of approximately 10.5, comparable to ammonia.

The lake's conditions are so harsh that contact with the water can coat organisms in minerals, making them appear as if they have turned to stone. Despite these extreme conditions and water temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius, certain life forms thrive. The lake supports endemic algae, specific fish species, and serves as a vital habitat for over two million flamingos.
