Lake Paranoá faces inspections over irregular occupation

The Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) has identified irregular use and environmental issues along the shores of Lake Paranoá in Brasília. A study conducted between August and September highlighted unauthorized commercial activities, including tents, trailers, and street vendors occupying public spaces, green areas, and parking spots at the Beira-Lago Leisure Center.

In addition to unauthorized commerce, inspections revealed environmental concerns such as solid waste in green areas and pedestrian paths, as well as the use of improvised barbecues and traces of fires. Authorities also noted vehicle circulation in protected environmental zones and raised questions regarding the legality of nautical equipment rentals, such as kayaks and pedal boats.

Representatives from the MPDFT and the Government of the Federal District met recently to plan inspection and organization measures. The goal is to balance the preservation of this major leisure area with organized public use that does not hinder legitimate activities.
