Lake Plastira camps reach 100% capacity with international expansion plans

The Neraida Pezoula camps at Lake Plastira, part of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family's social structures, are seeing high demand with nearly 100% occupancy. The facilities host children, people with disabilities, and adults from vulnerable social groups. Each camping period accommodates 135 children, and due to high demand, the number of camping periods was recently expanded from two to four.

The camps also serve an international role, hosting children from countries such as Cyprus and Ukraine, as well as international university students during non-camping months. To ensure a focused environment, children are not permitted to use mobile phones during their stay.

Mayor Panagiotis Nanos stated that the strategic goal is to transform Lake Plastira into an international center for youth meeting regarding natural and human environment innovation. Plans are also underway to host the first Academy of the Greek Language in the summer of 2027, targeting children of the Greek diaspora.
