Lake Plastira Council extends Agrafa Mountaineering Shelter lease

The Municipal Council of Lake Plastira has approved a 20-year lease extension for the property housing the Agrafa Mountaineering Shelter, extending the term until 2048. The decision aims to facilitate the complete reconstruction and upgrading of the facility and its infrastructure.

The lessee, Vlasis Papathomas, requested the extension to qualify for a funding program from the Ministry of Tourism and the Thessaly Region. The proposed renovation works have an estimated budget of approximately 117,000 euros. Mayor Panagiotis Nanos noted that studies are underway to transform the area into a year-round activity park.

Deputy Mayor Thomas Stergiopoulos clarified that if the funding program is not secured, the lease will expire in November 2028 and the property will be put up for auction. However, Mr. Papathomas expressed his readiness to cover the renovation costs using his own private funds if the external funding is not granted.
