Lake Plastira offers diverse mountainous tourism in Thessaly

Lake Plastira, located in the Karditsa regional unit of Thessaly, serves as a major mountainous destination in Greece. A perimeter route of approximately 55 kilometers offers visitors diverse landscapes and opportunities for spiritual and physical recreation.

Panagiotis Nanos, the Mayor of Lake Plastira, describes the area as one of the country’s five best mountainous destinations. He notes that the location combines mountain scenery with nature-based education, enriched by historical elements and religious monuments.

While the eastern and western sides of the lake are geographically close, they feature significant differences in elevation and landscape. The eastern lakeside route, which includes the path from Karditsa through Metropoli and Moschato, currently sees less tourist development than the western side despite its natural beauty.
