Lake Province, Chad, intensifies humanitarian coordination and infrastructure development

In the Lake Province of Chad, authorities and humanitarian partners are intensifying coordination efforts to address ongoing regional crises. General Saleh Haggar Tidjani, the government delegate, officially relaunched the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) consultation framework in Bol. This initiative aims to harmonize emergency aid with long-term development projects to better manage challenges such as population displacement and cholera outbreaks.

Addressing the humanitarian crisis, officials are working to redesign convergence zones for the approximately 294,805 internally displaced persons and refugees currently in the province. This strategic mapping follows recent population movements caused by security instability in May 2026. Stakeholders, including local authorities, security forces, and agencies like the IOM and OCHA, are collaborating to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable populations effectively.

Parallel to these humanitarian efforts, infrastructure development is progressing in the region. Construction of the Lake Chad University has reached 40% completion eight months into a 24-month schedule. The complex will include academic and administrative buildings, lecture halls, and a library, with plans to utilize solar energy to ensure power autonomy. A local committee will be established to monitor the construction and ensure quality and adherence to deadlines.
