Lake Shikotsu features seasonal scenery and local accommodation changes

Lake Shikotsu in Hokkaido offers various natural attractions and seasonal activities. The area features scenic views of Mount Eniwa, Mount Tarumae, and Mount Funka from the caldera lake shores. Visitors can experience the Shikotsu Ice Festival during winter or enjoy canoeing on the Chitose River.

Regarding local accommodations, the historic Shikotsu Youth Hostel, originally designed by architect Yoshiya Tagami, closed on March 31, 2021, due to declining visitor numbers during the pandemic and facility aging. The building was acquired by Tsuruga Kanko Development to be operated alongside their existing facilities. Other local lodging options include Marukoma Onsen and Log Bear.
