Lakers ownership group targets $30 billion valuation in $12.5 billion deal

A group led by former Disney CEO Bob Iger and investor Joshua Kushner has reached an agreement to purchase the Los Angeles Lakers at a record valuation of approximately $12.5 billion. The deal, which requires approval from the NBA Board of Governors, follows a previous ownership change in 2025 when Mark Walter acquired control of the franchise for roughly $10 billion.

The new ownership group has set ambitious long-term financial targets, projecting the team's valuation could reach $30 billion by 2037, with potential paths to $62 billion under favorable conditions. These projections are driven by anticipated growth in media rights, international expansion, and sponsorships.

To boost revenue, the group reportedly plans to reclaim approximately 6,000 season tickets currently held by brokers to sell as single-game tickets. This move could increase average single-game ticket prices from $217 to $361, potentially generating $150 million in additional revenue by 2028.
