Lakhimpur Kheri floods affect 19,000 people across 34 villages

Flooding caused by the Sharda and Ghaghara rivers has impacted approximately 19,000 people in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. Recent rises in water levels have brought 12 additional villages under water, bringing the total number of affected villages in the district to 34.

In the Palia region, the Sharda River has risen above the danger mark, while other areas remain near critical levels. The Mohana River has also overflowed, flooding homes in Janakpur village and forcing residents to use boats for transportation.

Local administration has placed five tehsils—Palia, Nighasan, Dhaurahra, Lakhimpur, and गोला (Gola)—on alert. Officials are monitoring river levels closely and have instructed relief centers and local officers to provide food, water, and aid to affected families. While water levels in some areas are beginning to recede, authorities continue to prepare for potential evacuations and are submitting damage reports to the state government.
