Laki Chalkias funeral takes place at Athens' First Cemetery

On 6 August, the funeral of renowned Greek folk singer Laki Chalkias was held at the Holy Temple of the Holy Fathers in the First Cemetery of Athens. The public viewing began at 10:00, and the official ceremony took place at 12:00, attended by family, friends, fellow artists and political figures. The family asked that, instead of wreaths, mourners make donations to the Greek Association for Protection and Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons (ELPEAP) (IBAN GR2701401150115002002018609). Chalkias, born in 1943 into the historic Chalkias musical family, built a six‑decade career collaborating with leading Greek singers and composers and is remembered as a key figure of Greece’s traditional and popular music heritage.
