Lakis Lazopoulos endorses Antonis Samaras in political interview

Greek actor and director Lakis Lazopoulos has sparked political debate following a television interview on Mega, where he expressed support for former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. Lazopoulos described Samaras as a “good choice” who “knows how to govern,” suggesting he remains a viable political option within the New Democracy sphere.

In the same interview, Lazopoulos distanced himself from Alexis Tsipras and his political movement, stating that Tsipras’s “rebranding” attempt has failed because he has not clearly defined his future direction or stance on corruption. He also criticized the current leadership of New Democracy, labeling it a “far-right party.”

The comments drew sharp criticism from Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, who attacked Lazopoulos on social media. Georgiadis accused the actor of political opportunism, noting that Lazopoulos was once a fierce critic of Samaras. He suggested that Lazopoulos’s current stance is a calculated attempt to weaken Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis by promoting a split within New Democracy.

Media personality Giorgos Liagas also commented on the remarks, expressing surprise at the shift in Lazopoulos’s political positioning and questioning the logic of labeling the current government far-right while viewing Samaras as a centrist alternative.
