Laksdya Hersan emerges as candidate for Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff

Laksamana Madya (Laksdya) TNI Hersan, the current Inspector General of the TNI, has emerged as a strong candidate for the position of Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL). He is expected to potentially succeed Laksamana TNI Muhammad Ali, who is approaching retirement.

Political observer Adib Miftahul noted that Hersan possesses a comprehensive range of experience, including combat operations, organizational management, and national-level decision-making dynamics. Miftahul suggested that Hersan's recent promotion to a three-star officer further strengthens his position in the succession process.

While Hersan is a prominent name in the leadership race, the final decision rests with the President. Key considerations for the appointment are expected to include strategic needs, geopolitical dynamics, and the agenda for military equipment modernization.
