Regional governments launch active aging initiatives for seniors
Various municipalities and regional governments across Spain, Argentina, and Chile are launching initiatives to promote active aging and combat social isolation among seniors.
In Spain, the Government of the Canary Islands is utilizing the AlGolpito project, which uses walking football through the foundations of CD Tenerife and UD Las Palmas to encourage longevity. Other Spanish municipalities, including L’Hospitalet, Ponferrada, l’Alfàs del Pi, Trigueros, Los Palacios y Villafranca, and El Ejido, have introduced programs ranging from outdoor wellness and digital literacy to specialized workshops in memory, creativity, and physical exercise.
In South America, Argentina is hosting the third edition of the PEAM Departmental Olympics for those over 50, featuring recreational and competitive activities. In Chile, community health centers in Calingasta and programs in Concepción are integrating technology and interdisciplinary academic support to improve the emotional well-being and functional autonomy of older adults.
