LaLiga 2026-27 season begins with opening victories and new technology
The 2026-27 LaLiga season has commenced with several notable results and technological updates. Deportivo Alavés secured a 3-0 victory over Getafe CF, highlighted by a standout performance from Mariano Díaz, who recorded one goal and two assists. Getafe played much of the match with ten men following a red card for Kiko Femenía. In another fixture, FC Sevilla defeated Rayo Vallecano 2-1, overcoming an early deficit and a red card for Kike Salas to secure the win with late goals. RCD Espanyol also started strongly with a 3-0 win against Levante UD, featuring two goals from Roberto Fernández.
Technologically, LaLiga has become the first national league to implement Connected Ball Technology across all matches. Developed with PUMA and Kinexon, the system uses radio-frequency chips to provide precise data on ball position and contact, assisting VAR and semi-automated offside decisions.
Additionally, LaLiga has reactivated dynamic IP blocking to combat illegal broadcasts. This measure has drawn scrutiny following reports that the blocks may affect thousands of legitimate websites hosted on shared IP addresses.
