LaLiga 2026/27 season schedule reshaped for World Cup semifinalists
Spain’s top football league, LaLiga, released the 2026/27 calendar, outlining an asymmetric match order and multiple international windows. Atlético Madrid will open the season on 15‑16 August at home against Málaga CF, with the first Madrid derby set for 20 September. The schedule also details winter break dates, FIFA windows and a planned three‑week pause for the World Cup.
LaLiga president Javier Tebas confirmed that the opening match between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad will be moved to 26‑27 August because several players from both clubs are competing in the World Cup semifinals. The postponement follows a rule that matches involving teams with players in the later stages of the tournament can be delayed to allow adequate rest. Other fixtures, such as Barcelona‑Athletic and Atlético‑Málaga, remain on schedule, though some clubs face potential adjustments depending on player involvement in international competitions.
