LaLiga referees to prioritize playing time and use AI for analysis
The Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) has announced new operational pillars for the upcoming 2026-2027 LaLiga season. A primary focus will be maximizing effective playing time by strictly penalizing time-wasting tactics during restarts, such as throw-ins, fouls, and substitutions.
Regarding the so-called ‘Vinicius Law,’ the CTA explicitly rejected the implementation of any specific regulations outside the existing general rules, opting instead for a consistent and predictable application of current football regulations.
Additionally, the RFEF's CTA is evolving its audiovisual project, ‘Tiempo de Revisión.’ For the new season, an artificial intelligence system will be used to select the most relevant plays for technical analysis. While AI will drive the selection process to increase transparency and objectivity, the committee retains the right to manually add plays for educational purposes. The first broadcast of the season is scheduled to air following the second matchday.
