Lalit Modi proposes new IPL schedule and match count
IPL founder Lalit Modi has proposed shifting the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament window from its current March-May slot to a period between October and April. Modi suggested that the tournament could begin as early as January to better accommodate growth and provide a better experience for families and spectators.
In addition to the schedule change, Modi proposed increasing the total number of matches to 94. This would involve a full home-and-away format for the 10 current teams, resulting in 90 league matches and four playoffs, which represents a 60 percent increase from the original 59-match format.
Modi has called on ICC Chairman Jay Shah to assist in implementing these changes. He noted that such a shift would require significant adjustments to India's international cricket calendar and domestic cricket schedules.
