Lalka film breaks Polish box office records

The new film adaptation of Bolesław Prus’s classic novel “Lalka,” directed by Maciej Kawalski, has achieved massive commercial success in Poland. Since its release on September 30, 2026, the production has broken domestic box office records, marking the largest opening for a Polish film since the pandemic.

Data indicates that within its first five days, the film attracted over 620,000 viewers, with some estimates placing total ticket sales for the initial period at over 860,000. The film’s performance is noted as being surpassed in the Polish market only by the global hit “Spider-Man: A New Day.”

Starring Marcin Dorociński as Stanisław Wokulski and Kamila Urzędowska as Izabela Łęcka, the epic production has also sparked significant cultural interest. This includes special programming on Polish Radio Jedynka, featuring discussions with the film’s creators and the premiere of a new radio play exploring the descendants of the novel’s characters.
