Lam Dong land dispute leads to machete attack on security guards

A violent attack occurred in Quang Truc commune, Lam Dong province, involving a group of masked individuals wielding machetes. On the night of September 14, approximately 4 to 5 people dressed in black and wearing face coverings attacked security guards employed by Long Son Investment Service Trading Co., Ltd. at sub-zone 1535.

The assault resulted in injuries to three security guards, who were transported to the hospital for treatment. In addition to the physical injuries, several areas of crops were destroyed during the incident. Authorities have seized a container that had been placed on the land to assist in the investigation.

Local officials indicate the violence is likely rooted in long-standing land disputes between the company and local residents or former employees. While the land is legally managed by Long Son Company under a project approved in 2008, significant portions have been subject to encroachment and disputes. Approximately 752 hectares of the original project area had previously been reclaimed due to non-compliance with commitments, and dozens of households are reportedly using land within the project zone, leading to ongoing complaints and legal tensions.
