Lam Research to invest $3B in global R&D and expand Singapore workforce
Lam Research has announced a plan to invest more than $3 billion over the next five years to expand its global research and development lab network. This multi-site expansion, spanning the U.S., Asia, and Europe, aims to increase the company’s experiment capacity by over 50% and accelerate product development cycles.
CEO Tim Archer stated that the investment is intended to keep pace with the rapid innovation required by the AI era, which demands chips with new architectures and nanoscale precision. The company’s integrated lab network has previously helped shorten process development by up to 2.5 times for customers.
In addition to the global R&D expansion, Lam Research plans to add approximately 200 roles in Singapore. Nearly 90% of these positions will be engineering and technical roles focused on advanced semiconductor technologies, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM), 3D integration, and silicon photonics. This move aims to strengthen the company’s local footprint and support the growing demand for complex chip architectures driven by high-performance computing and AI.
