Lambayeque digital media outlet targeted in shooting

Journalist Johnny Namuche, director of the digital platform La Noticia Clave, was targeted in a shooting at his media offices in Lambayeque. The attack occurred on Thursday, September 10, at approximately 8:42 p.m., shortly after the conclusion of a live nightly broadcast.

Security footage captured individuals on a mototaxi firing four shots at a window of the building while Namuche and his production team were still inside. While Namuche stated he had not received prior threats, he noted that his outlet recently published a report regarding the alleged abandonment of an elderly man, identified as the father of political candidate Dustin Coello Vásquez of Avanza País. A direct link between that publication and the attack has not yet been established.

Namuche has filed a formal complaint and intends to request personal security guarantees. The National Association of Journalists of Peru (ANP) and the Institute for Press and Society (IPYS) have both condemned the incident, calling for a diligent investigation by the police and the Public Ministry. Both organizations expressed concern over the rising frequency of attacks against journalists in various regions of the country.
