Lambchop releases ‘Punching the Clown’, their 16th studio album
Lambchop has released ‘Punching the Clown’, the group’s 16th album and their first new project in four years. Led by songwriter Kurt Wagner, the Nashville-based collective explores a sound characterized by sparse instrumentation, including acoustic guitar, banjo, and piano.
A notable feature of the album is the inclusion of two choirs, one from London and another from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. This arrangement is inspired by the 19th-century British church tradition of ‘lining out’, where a lead singer calls out a line for a choir to respond to.
The album marks a shift toward folk-oriented instrumentation following previous electronic experimentation. Wagner, who is 66, continues his long-standing career that began 40 years ago with the trio Posterchild.
