Lambda youth network faces funding loss as researchers appeal to ministry
A group of 141 researchers has issued a scientific statement criticizing the decision by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth to terminate funding for the Lambda queer youth network.
The termination of the framework agreement, led by Karin Prien, will result in the loss of nearly 380,000 euros in federal funding by the end of the year. This funding currently secures the association’s fundamental infrastructure and its headquarters.
The researchers argue that the decision endangers the development of queer youth and threatens pluralistic democracy. They note that while visibility and legal recognition for queer youth are increasing, they simultaneously face structural discrimination, violence, and social precariousness. The signatories are calling for sustainable, long-term funding and institutional support for queer self-organization.
