Lamborghini shifts Lanzador model from electric to plug-in hybrid

Lamborghini has announced a strategic shift for its upcoming Lanzador model, moving away from a fully electric powertrain to a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. Originally unveiled as an all-electric concept during the 2023 Monterey Car Week, the four-seat, two-door grand tourer is now expected to feature a combustion engine alongside electric components.

CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated during the Monterey Car Week that the decision to pivot to hybrid technology was “very well accepted by the customer” and that clients are “very happy about that.” This change aligns with the brand's broader direction, including the second-generation Urus, which will also utilize hybrid technology rather than being fully electric.

While specific technical details remain confidential, industry speculation suggests the Lanzador may utilize an architecture similar to the Revuelto or Temerario, or potentially an electrified version of the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 found in the Urus SE Performante. The model is currently slated for release by 2028.
