Discovery Mining outlines expansion plans for Timmins

Discovery Mining CEO Tony Makuch has outlined significant development plans for Timmins, aiming to potentially double gold production in the area. Following the acquisition of Newmont’s Porcupine Complex and Kidd Operations from Glencore, the company is focusing on expanding its footprint.

Makuch noted that these investments will necessitate major improvements in local infrastructure, including housing, healthcare, education, and community safety. A key component of the long-term strategy involves the Hollinger pit project located in the city centre, which had ceased mining operations in late 2024.
