Lambton NSW social housing complex plagued by safety and drug issues

The Robinson Avenue complex in Lambton, a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, was finished at the end of 2024 with state government funding, converting five older homes into a modern 20‑unit social housing block.

Since its opening, residents have reported persistent problems including loud music, constant yelling, threats of violence and intimidation, and the presence of needles and other drug paraphernalia. One incident involved a neighbour’s relative brandishing a knife, prompting three emergency calls and a police lights‑and‑sirens response. The ongoing stress has led to health concerns such as fainting episodes and flare‑ups of chronic pain. Tenants have repeatedly asked Homes NSW to relocate them to standalone housing, but the requests remain unresolved.
