Lambussie MP calls for lifting of Hamile curfew
Professor Titus Beyuo, the Member of Parliament for Lambussie, has appealed to the Ministry of the Interior and security authorities to review and lift the curfew in Hamile. The restriction was imposed following a deadly explosion on November 3, suspected to have been caused by dynamite, which resulted in three deaths and several injuries, including a Ghana Immigration Service officer.
During a statement to Parliament on November 5, Professor Beyuo argued that while the curfew was necessary at the time of its imposition, it is now causing unbearable hardship for residents. He noted that engagements with traditional authorities and community stakeholders suggest that calm has returned to the area and normal activities are resuming.
The Ministry of the Interior has already revised the curfew hours for Hamile and its environs to 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. Professor Beyuo stated he has taken responsibility for the medical bills of the injured and pledged continued support for the bereaved families. He also urged security agencies to expedite investigations into the explosion to prevent future occurrences.
