Lamech Mwanyangapo, veteran Namibian cameraman and cancer advocate, dies at 61

The Namibian media community is mourning Lamech Mwanyangapo, a veteran cameraman and cancer advocate who died at age 61 on August 29 in Windhoek following a battle with multiple myeloma.

Mwanyangapo served the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) for nearly three decades, joining in 1995. Even after his retirement in 2024, he continued to support the corporation as a sales consultant. NBC officials and colleagues described him as a dedicated professional who played a significant role in developing Namibia’s media landscape.

Beyond his broadcasting career, Mwanyangapo was a prominent advocate for cancer awareness. He established the Lamech Mwanyangapo Cancer Association to promote annual screenings and early detection, and he campaigned for the creation of an oncology centre in northern Namibia.
