Lamezia Terme authorities seize 20 tons of illegally stored tires

Carabinieri officers in Lamezia Terme have seized approximately 20 tons of used tires from an auto repair shop and car wash. The tires were being stored without the required authorizations in an open-air area covering about 150 square meters.

A 54-year-old local man has been reported to authorities for the illegal management of special waste. The area was placed under preventive seizure by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Lamezia Terme, which is coordinating the investigation.

Authorities noted that the large accumulation posed significant fire safety risks, including the potential for rapid flame propagation and the release of toxic fumes. The intervention aims to prevent incidents similar to a major 2006 tire fire in the region that lasted over 36 hours.
