Lamezia Terme: FLC CGIL calls for prevention over repression in schools

The FLC CGIL trade union has expressed solidarity with a teacher and school staff in Lamezia Terme following a recent news event. The union is calling on institutions to address the root causes of youth distress and violence rather than relying solely on repressive or security-focused measures.

The union's territorial secretariat has proposed three key areas for intervention: moving away from purely punitive responses in favor of prevention, strengthening the role of the school as an educational community to foster trust and civic responsibility, and making structural investments. These requested investments include providing permanent access to specialized professionals such as psychologists and pedagogues, reducing class sizes, and ensuring legal and psychological protection for education workers.
