Lamezia Terme hospital launches new interventional cardiology unit

The San Giovanni Paolo II Hospital in Lamezia Terme has officially launched its interventional cardiology unit. Following the arrival of specialized equipment in June and July, the facility successfully performed its first two procedures.

The initial operations included an electrophysiology procedure to treat heart rhythm alterations and an arterial assessment for a patient with severe obliterative arteriopathy of the lower limbs. The medical team was led by Dr. Roberto Ceravolo, with supervision from Dr. Gerardo Mancuso and Dr. Giuseppe Loria.

This development is the result of a preparatory process initiated in 2023 by the Catanzaro Provincial Health Authority and supported by the Calabria Region. The new unit aims to enhance local healthcare by treating arrhythmias and peripheral arteriopathies, potentially reducing the need for pharmacological therapy and lowering mortality rates. The facility is also working toward authorization to participate in the regional itinerant hemodynamics project.
