Lamezia Terme local police warn of critical staff shortages

Local police workers in Lamezia Terme held an assembly to address a chronic shortage of personnel. Organized by CSA regional secretary Pierfrancesco Lincol, the meeting highlighted that the force has fewer than 30 units, failing to meet the 1/700 inhabitant ratio required by Calabria regional law.

Participants noted that the workforce is aging and exhausted by constant shifts and service demands. They pointed out that while the 2017 Minniti Decree expanded their responsibilities regarding urban security, no increase in staff has followed; the last major recruitment occurred in 2000. The workers expressed that relying on the sense of duty of current officers to cover these gaps is unsustainable and impacts their physical and mental well-being. The assembly intends to seek a dialogue with municipal governance and has threatened to declare a state of agitation if no decisive action is taken.
