Lamezia Terme prosecutors investigate hospital death

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Lamezia Terme has opened an investigation into the sudden death of a 72-year-old man at a local hospital on September 11. The investigation is currently being conducted against unknown persons under the suspicion of manslaughter and medical negligence.

The patient had been admitted to the sub-intensive care unit on September 3 following a drop in blood pressure. Although medical staff had indicated on September 10 that the patient was improving and nearing discharge, his condition deteriorated rapidly within 24 hours due to a sudden fever and suspected infection.

Family members have requested judicial intervention, alleging a potential hospital-acquired infection and the failure or delayed application of emergency protocols. Authorities have seized clinical documentation, and the results of an autopsy are expected to determine the exact cause of death and any criminal liability.
