Lamia: Man in ICU after suspected spider bite

A 30-year-old man of Nepalese origin has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Lamia General Hospital following a suspected spider bite. The incident occurred while the man was performing agricultural work in the Amfikleia region.

While the exact species of the spider has not been confirmed, initial descriptions suggest it may have been a black spider. Medical professionals are investigating whether the severity of his condition is due to the venom itself or a severe allergic reaction.

The Mediterranean black widow (Latrodectus tredecimguttatus) is a venomous species found in Greece, particularly in dry, warm rural areas. Its venom can cause intense pain, muscle spasms, sweating, abdominal pain, and heart rate changes, occasionally requiring ICU monitoring.
