Lamia: Minors impersonate students in school trip fraud scheme
Authorities in Lamia are investigating a fraud scheme involving minors who impersonated students to solicit money from citizens and local businesses. Two individuals, aged between 16 and 18, approached various shops and offices claiming to be students from the Kamenia Vourla High School.
The perpetrators claimed they were collecting funds to help classmates who could not afford a five-day school trip to Italy. To increase their credibility, the youths provided false personal details and presented a forged electronic document on a mobile phone, which falsely appeared to be an authorization from the school's principal.
The scam was uncovered after a local lawyer, whom the individuals had approached for a small donation, contacted the high school directly. The principal confirmed that the school had no knowledge of the initiative and had not granted any permission for such a collection.
