Lamia mourns death of 17‑year‑old student Panagiotis Papanthzimas

On the night of 27 July 2026, 17‑year‑old student Panagiotis Papanthzimas collapsed suddenly while playing with friends in a park in Lamia, Greece. Emergency responders from EKAB arrived quickly and attempted resuscitation, but he was pronounced dead at the scene and later confirmed at Lamia Hospital.

The community responded with grief. The municipal council announced that the 4th KAPI (public service office) would remain closed on 29 July as a sign of mourning. A funeral service is scheduled for 29 July at 11:00 a.m. in the Holy Temple of Saint George in the Agri­lia district of Lamia, where family, friends and local officials will pay their respects.
