Greek police arrest high-ranking organized crime figures

Greek authorities have conducted two significant arrests involving high-profile criminal figures.

In Komotini, police arrested a 68-year-old foreign national identified as a ‘Vor V Zakone’ or ‘Thief in Law,’ a title denoting a high-ranking member of Russian-speaking organized crime. During a search of his residence, officers seized a pistol with seven rounds, a hand grenade without a detonator, a detonator, additional ammunition, and a metal saber. The suspect had previously faced charges in Germany for involvement in a criminal organization.

In a separate operation, police apprehended a 66-year-old man in the Lamia area following a manhunt involving units from Thessaloniki and Athens. The individual had outstanding judicial decisions totaling 120 years in prison. These sentences stem from a series of financial crimes dating back to 2011, including forgery, tax evasion, and fraud. Although the cumulative total is 120 years, Greek law dictates specific limits on the actual duration of consecutive sentences.
