Lamia school ceiling collapse sends four students to hospital

A section of plaster fell from the ceiling of a classroom at the 3rd General Lyceum of Lamia during a lesson on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred during the fourth teaching hour, affecting students in the second grade.

Four students were preemptively transported to the Lamia General Hospital by EKAB paramedics for medical examinations. While no serious injuries were reported, the students were visibly shaken by the event. The school principal, Stavros Charalampous, noted that the building had undergone renovations in 1998 and expressed surprise at the sudden detachment of the plaster.

The affected classroom has been cordoned off for safety. Technical services from the Municipality of Lamia have been notified and are conducting an inspection to determine the cause of the collapse, including whether it was due to structural issues or poor construction. Authorities are also inspecting other areas of the school complex to ensure the safety of students and staff.
