Lamine Yamal explains decision to avoid comparisons with Lionel Messi

Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal has revealed why he requested his father delete a famous childhood photograph featuring Lionel Messi. Yamal explained that he wanted to avoid early comparisons with the Argentine legend, stating, “I wanted to be Lamine, and I did not want to be Messi.” He noted that he asked his father to remove the image from Facebook to ensure he could establish his own identity and reach his potential on his own terms.

Yamal also addressed his recent interaction with Messi, clarifying that his gesture of embracing the veteran player after a match was a sincere expression of gratitude for his contributions to football rather than a calculated move for media attention. Additionally, the player discussed his technical inspirations, noting that he studies Neymar’s dribbling style and deceptive movements to make himself more unpredictable on the pitch.
