France‑Spain World Cup 2026 semifinal fuels tactical clash

Spain’s teenage star Lamine Yamal declared that Spain and France are the two best teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and warned France not to fear them. French coach Didier Deschamps said he has studied Yamal’s strengths but that France “has solutions” and will not centre its game plan on stopping a single player.

Before the match at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on 15 July, French centre‑back Ibrahima Konaté and midfielder Adrien Rabiot both stressed that France is not afraid of Spain or of Yamal, insisting the team will focus on collective play rather than a “anti‑Yamal” plan. Konaté added that Spain’s quality is spread across the squad and that France will rely on its own cohesion to win.

Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente and France’s Didier Deschamps each highlighted the high‑stakes nature of the semifinal, with France entering the match unbeaten in the knockout phase and Spain having conceded only one goal in six games. Both sides are set to field their strongest line‑ups, including a fit Kylian Mbappé for France and Yamal, who has returned from a recent injury, for Spain.
